Wolves softball power past Eagles

The Algoma softball team fell 2-0 early to score seven unanswered runs en route to a 9-4 victory over Southern Door on Thursday.

Alanah Kaye's double opened the scoring for the Eagles, driving in Ashlyn Delfosse and Reese Vogel to take the early 2-0 lead. The Wolves would match it in their half of the first, with Macie Zimmerman scoring on a lineout and Natalie Ray knocking in Sierra Slaby. An error set Jadyn Nellis up for a two-run single to double the advantage in the second, and the Wolves used a passed ball, an error, and a ground out to grind out three more runs to make it 7-2. After the Eagles scored in the fourth inning, the Wolves tallied a pair in the fifth when Olivia Cabino's flyout brought home two more runs. An error set up the game's final score when Ashlyn Delfosse was able to scamper home on a ground ball.

Ray led the offensive charge for the Wolves, going 3-3 with two runs scored and one driven in. Three other Wolves collected hits in the win earned by the pitcher Zimmerman, who struck out 13 batters while allowing four runs (two ER) on four hits. Vogel and Kaye each had two hits in the loss for the Eagles. Delfosse was responsible for all nine runs from the circle as she pitched 4 1/3 innings.
