Wolves softball see lead slip against Thunder

The Algoma Wolves softball team saw an early lead slip away in its 7-4 loss to Seymour on Thursday.

The Wolves struck in the first inning when Nora Krause doubled home Brooke Mattson to make it 1-0. After the Thunder registered an RBI single and an RBI double in consecutive at-bats to take the lead, the Wolves took it right back with a pair of run-scoring ground-outs and a passed ball to make it 4-2 after three innings. The game flipped on the Wolves in the fifth when Macie Zimmerman gave up a game-tying two-run homer before the eventual game-winner came across on an RBI single. A pair of RBI singles in the seventh inning gave the Thunder all the insurance they would need. Zimmerman's day ended with 13 strikeouts, but allowed seven runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and six walks in her season debut. Mattson, Zimmerman, and Krause recorded the Wolves' three hits.

The Wolves are back in action on Friday when they play Chilton at 4:30 p.m.
