Algoma girls topple Peshtigo, face Sturgeon Bay Friday

The Algoma girls basketball team will ride a two-game winning streak into Sturgeon Bay on Friday after posting a 58-43 win over Peshtigo on Thursday night.

 

The Wolves jumped out to a 24-18 lead behind 12 first-half points from Brooke Mattson. Once the Bulldogs' defense turned their attention to the Wolves' guard, Sierra Slaby took the reins of the offense with 11 second-half points thanks to three three-pointers. Mattson and Slaby both ended their evening with 16 points apiece while Lauren Loucks posted seven points,  and bothJadyn Nellis and Bristol Schmidt each added five points. The Bulldogs were able to keep things close thanks to the efforts of Holly Pesch and Audra Bauman as they scored 12 and 10 points respectively in the loss.

 

The Wolves are back in action on Friday night when they travel north to play Sturgeon Bay. The Clippers have lost five straight since beating Florence on January 10th, including a 66-47 loss to Three Lakes/Phelps on Monday. The Clippers' Dasha Yeltysheva led all scorers with 21 points as she converted on eight of her ten free throw attempts. Regan Kasten scored 13 points and Cady Carlson added 10 points in the loss. The tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
