The Algoma Wolves remarkable run in the WIAA Division 4 tournament came to an end on Tuesday as St. Mary's Catholic won 7-3 in the sectional semifinal in Gillett.
The first four innings saw a pitcher's duel as the Wolves' Charlie Prokash and Zephyrs' MacKenzie Fisher allowed only four hits each and no runs. Prokash finished with five strikeouts, all coming in the first three innings.
Things got crazy in the fifth innings as the Zephyr's sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs to take a 7-0 lead.
Algoma made it interesting by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth, benefiting from four Zephyr errors.
Jack Cole and Jordon Fenendael led the Wolves with two hits each. and Carson Leist pitched the final 2.3 innings.
Fisher was the winning pitcher going the distance allowing three runs with seven strikeouts.
The Algoma Wolves look to avenge an early season loss to the St. Mary's Catholic Zephyrs when they play in a WIAA Division 4 sectional semi-final at Gillett High School on Tuesday afternoon.
The Wolves have upset three teams on the road with higher seeding, including the #1 seeded Mishicot Indians 2-0 in last Thursday's regional final.
The #6 Seeded Zephyrs upset Kewaunee 1-0 in the regional semi-final last Tuesday and advanced to the sectionals with a 12-2 thumping of Shiocton.
Algoma Coach Jeff DeMeuse shared his thoughts on the Wolves' season, finishing 15-9 and making it to the sectional semi-final.
