A three-run seventh inning helped the Algoma Wolves get past the Brillion Lions 7-5 on Wednesday, earning them a date with top-seeded Mishicot on Thursday.
The Wolves scored two runs in the first inning thanks to RBI singles by Chase Romdenne and Charlie Prokash, only to see the lead disappear in the third inning when the Lions scored four times to make it 4-2. The two teams would trade single tallies in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 5-4 heading into the final frame. Prokash would lead the Wolves with a two-run single that brought home Grant Vandervest and Braeden Leist before a series of errors led to them tacking on an insurance run. With the tying run on first base, Carson Leist induced a ground ball out to help the Wolves advance to Thursday's regional title game.
Vandervest, Prokash, and Braeden Leist all had two hits, while Prokash was credited with three RBI. Carson Leist earned the win, allowing no runs on two hits with a strike out across the final 1 2/3 innings of play.
The Wolves will have to go on the road again on Thursday to clinch their trip to Gillett for the sectional round. They will visit top-seeded Mishicot for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch. The winner will face St. Mary Catholic in the sectional semi-final.
