Wolves dominate Reedsville in softball opener

Algoma opened its 2024 softball season with a five-inning, 11-1 non-conference win over Reedsville on a cold, overcast, and windy day at Peterson Park Tuesday.

Hannah Nell, Jadyn Nellis, Megan Zimmer and Natalie Ray all doubled, and Nora Krause and Brooke Mattson each singled. Nellis had four RBI, Krause crossed the plate three times and Nell and Ray scored twice. Sierra Slaby, Macie Zimmerman, and Krause each walked once. Slaby stole two bases, and Mattson one.

Junior pitcher Kayla Bubolz had the Panthers' only hit, a solo home run in the top of the third. She also stole two bases. Bubolz gave up seven hits and walked three. Six of the 11 runs were earned. Reedsville committed four errors. Bubolz faced 25 batters and threw 55 strikes among her 92 pitches.

Next up, the Wolves are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Southern Door on April 5.
