Wolves girls can't weather Indians comeback, battle Blazers Tuesday

The Algoma Wolves girls basketball team held a five-point lead going into halftime but could not hold on in a 48-40 loss to state qualifier Mishicot Monday night.

The Wolves received balanced scoring throughout the game, scoring 20 points in each half. Their defense kept the Indians down for one half as they took a 20-15 lead into the break, led by 10 points by Sierra Slaby. The Indians flipped the script in the second half, holding Slaby scoreless while outscoring the Wolves 33-20 to take the win. Jaydyn Nellis did her part to keep the Wolves in it, scoring nine of her team-high 11 points after the break. Two other players scored seven points for the Wolves in the loss. Cora Stodola led the comeback for the Indians, scoring 13 of her game-high 18 points in the second half.

The Wolves will have a quick turnaround with a Packerland matchup against NEW Lutheran at home at 7:30 p.m. The Blazers have dropped both games so far this season, losing to Kohler on the road and Crivitz at home by double digits.

Lexie Meerstein (18.0 ppg) and Ingrid Beaumont (13.0 ppg) have handled the scoring for the Blazers in the early going.
