Algoma girls continue tough stretch at Mishicot

The Algoma girls basketball team continues its murderer's row of season-opening games when it visits Mishicot for a 7:15 p.m. tip.

The Wolves have opened their season with three games against regional champions from a year ago, two of which battled their way to the state tournament games at the Resch Center. In their last game, the Wolves battled hard against the bigger competition on Thursday, but they are still looking for their first win of the year after falling to Freedom 48-27. The Wolves were chasing a single-digit deficit heading into the break, but the Irish showed why they won their conference last year, outscoring Algoma 22-9 in the second half. Ryley Zimmerman led the Wolves with 12 points, while Sierra Slaby chipped in nine points, registering the team's lone three-pointer on the night.

The Indians fell in the state semifinal against Aquinas last year and have opened the year 1-1. In their Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Tournament appearance, they lost to Edgewood 70-42.
