The Algoma football team will try to kick off its 2023 campaign for the second time when they travel to Wausaukee on Thursday.

A week ago, the athletic department alerted people that its Friday night matchup against Green Lake/Princeton had been canceled due to a lack of eligible players for their opponents. Last year, the Wolves went 5-2 and despite their positive record, their enrollment was too big to make them eligible for the eight-player playoffs. Grant Vandervest (running back, defensive back) and Mason Melohn (offensive lineman, defensive lineman)  represent their two All-Peninsula Conference performers returning for the season.

The Rangers could not muster its offense against playoff participant Lena/STAA last week, losing the game 34-0. They return no All-Peninsula Conference performers from last year's 4-5 (3-4 conference) squad.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
