The Algoma Wolves' boys basketball team will bus out of town to open their WIAA Tournament journey with a matchup against the Coleman Cougars.
The Wolves dropped their fifth game in six tries in heartbreaking fashion last Friday as they lost to Gibraltar on the road 42-40. The Wolves would enter the second half with a slim two-point advantage that once again wasn't safe throughout the period. Kaden Vardon tied the game with a three-pointer play with 20 seconds remaining before Schar's heroics at the horn. For the Wolves, Vardon scored a team-high 12 points and Owen Robertson nearly matched him with 11 points.
The Cougars enter the matchup with a 15-8 record but played only .500 down the stretch. Their regular season ended with a thud last Saturday afternoon when they lost to Lourdes Academy at home 70-38. Leading scorers Joseph Olsen (11.3 ppg), Logan Kurth (11.0 ppg), and Evan Hockers (10.9 ppg) were all held well below their scoring averages in the loss.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
