Down by 11 at the half was no big deal to the Algoma Wolves as they beat Manawa 44-40 in their opening-round matchup in the WIAA Division 4 Tournament Wednesday.
The Wolves were able to stay in the game thanks to poor free-throw shooting by Manawa, which only hit six of their 21 shots from the charity stripe. Spurring the comeback was Emily Kirchman, who scored all 12 of her game-high point total in the second half. The Wolves outscored their hosts 29-14 in the second half
Halle Panger chipped in nine points while Sierra Slaby chipped in eight points as the Wolves nailed eight threes behind the arc. Algoma travels to top-seed St. Mary Catholic in Neenah on Friday.
