The Algoma High School girls’ basketball team beat another team ahead of them in the Packerland standings Friday night, defeating Southern Door, 54-46. The Wolves have struggled offensively in recent weeks even as their fortunes have improved on the court. They had to turn that around after trailing 26-18 at the half. Algoma exploded for 36 in the second frame.
Senior guard Chloe Spitzer led the way with 20 points. Nicole Norton had a team-high 15 for Southern Door. Algoma has now won four straight conference games and is only a half-game back of fifth place. Southern Door is fourth in the Packerland, a game back of Gibraltar and Peshtigo.
Algoma’s next game is Monday when they host Sturgeon Bay. An Algoma win gets them back to .500 after a terribly slow start to the season. Southern Door plays at Gibraltar Monday.
