Kewaunee Storm Boys Travel North to Face Gibraltar Vikings

The Storm will travel up Highway 42 to take on fellow member of the Packerland Conference, Gibraltar. The Storm started off Packerland Conference play with a 59-38 win against Algoma. Kewaunee has beat Algoma every time since 2016. For Gibraltar, new head coach Travis Ward hopes to carry on what former head coach Justin Burress did last season, leading this team to state.

Kewaunee’s Coach Neitzel and Coach Burress both utilized the Run and Jump full-court pressure tactic. When the teams faced off it was always close because the opponent knew how to attack the strategy. Now, Coach Ward could make adjustments but, based on the success the team has had with the press it is unlikely.

Kewaunee has shown their offense off in 2 of the teams 3 games. That game in which they received minimal scoring was when they traveled to face the high-powered Brillion Lions  The Storm had received scoring from Ihlenfeldt, Stangel, and Kohnle. This prevents teams from cutting off scoring if they shut down a singular player. The Storm starting lineup also has 2 very capable scorers in Pribek and Lamack. Pribek is a big man that isn’t the biggest guy on the floor but still finds a way to get rebounds and second chance points in the paint.

The Vikings come into the matchup 1-2 after securing their first victory of the season on Saturday, beating Wabeno-Laona 58-45 on the road. Led by Jake Schar's 31 points, the Vikings outscored their hosts 27-14 to earn their first victory of the young season. Carl Burgess added nine points and Mateo Jauregui added six points in the victory.

Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm at Gibraltar High School.
