Vikings, Clippers split doubleheader on 105.1 The GOAT

It was a tale of two games for Gibraltar/Washington Island and Sturgeon Bay's doubleheader on Tuesday as the Vikings took game one 3-1 and the Clippers grabbed game two 9-6.

The first game was a pitcher's duel between the Vikings' Aaron Brey and the Clippers' Brody Kollath. The Vikings' first hit did not happen until the third inning, but it was a fruitful one as Bennett Isaacson-Krueger drove in Brady Kita to make it 1-0. The Clippers would tie it in the fourth inning on Kollath's RBI sacrifice fly, but the Vikings would take the lead right back in the fifth with two runs thanks to an RBI double by Brey and fly out by Cam Munao. Brey earned the win on the mound, allowing just one run and three hits across six innings with six strikeouts.

In the second game, the Vikings jumped to a 1-0 lead when Kita scampered home on a wild pitch. The Clippers' Garrett Ulberg gave his team the lead in the third when his single drove in Trey Vanderleest and Bryce Plzak. Ulberg repeated the feat the next inning to cap off a five-run rally that was started when Danny Lodl hit a two-run homer to straight away centerfield.

The Vikings would score twice in the top of the fifth on a two-RBI single by Bennett Issacson-Krueger, only to have the Clippers score insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings. A two-RBI single by Jaxin Lindgren would get the Vikings to within three runs in the seventh, but Ian Fruzyna closed the door with a strikeout to end the threat.
